“I was born to crush you [Gridman]. And I live on to crush you. In order to do that, I will…fight…together with you!”

–          Anti, SSSS.Gridman (Ep. 10)

The Toonami Trending Rundown for March 20-21, 2021. This week marked 24 years since Toonami first made the airwaves back on St. Patrick’s Day 1997. To commemorate the occasion, Toonami unveiled a new graphics and branding scheme during the night.

For this week’s social media buzz, #Toonami trended in the United States on Twitter alongside Food Wars, Fire Force, and SSSS.Gridman. The full list, including statistics and tweet counts from the Twitter app, can be seen below.

Last week’s feature was a game review of Desperados III. It received an 8.0 out of 10.

Following the successful run of Sword Art Online: Alicization on Toonami, Aniplex USA has announced that they will be releasing a Blu-ray box set of the season’s second half, titled War of Underworld. Containing the Project Alicization story arc’s latter 23 episodes over 6 Blu-ray discs, this box set will be released on June 22, 2021. For those interested in picking this up, it is available for pre-order at RightStuf for $229.98.

This morning at AnimeJapan, Aniplex released a new trailer and key visual for the upcoming Sword Art Online film, titled Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night. The film is scheduled to premiere in Japanese theaters this fall. The Key Visual features Kirito and Asuna in their “Aincrad starter” gear, alongside a new character Mito, an anime-original character. She will be voiced by Inori Minase, best known for voicing Rem in Re:Zero.

Today also marked the start of My Hero Academia’s fifth season in Japan. In addition to the new season, Studio Bones also released some new info regarding the third movie in the franchise. Titled My Hero Academia THE MOVIE: World Heroes’ Mission, the film is scheduled for release in Japanese theaters this upcoming August 6, 2021.

Given the success of the previous four seasons inside and outside Toonami’s scope, the show will be a top favorite to make its return to the better cartoon show in the weeks ahead. In terms of when could we see Season 5 on Toonami, it’s hard to say. While in normal times, we would regularly see the premiere a month after the dub premieres on FunimationNow, COVID-19 restrictions will likely delay matters, as we have seen with other Funimation SimulDubs. Indeed, Funimation has yet to announce when a dub will be ready. We’ll keep you posted on the developments ahead, and for those who want to see the simulcast, it’s available on Crunchyroll and FunimationNow.

Until next week, stay safe, be sure to visit blacklivesmatters.carrd.co and anti-asianviolenceresources.carrd.co to see what you can do to help the fight against racial inequality, and continue to do your part to stop the spread of COVID-19 and protect others by following your local health advisories. Stay at home unless essential purposes require you to go out, practice social distancing by staying six feet/two meters away from one another if possible, and wash your hands thoroughly for at least 20 seconds.
