Shueisha has revealed that a third season of One-Punch Man is in the works.

On Thursday (Wednesday evening in the United States), Shueisha revealed on the official Japanese One-Punch Man website and social media outlets that a third season of the hit anime series based on ONE’s hit manga series, is in production. The announcement is accompanied with a new key visual by character designer Chikashi Kubota.

Further details regarding the third season, including a premiere date and how much the season will cover, have yet to be revealed at this time. Also of note, it is to be revealed who will be animating the new season.  While Season 1 of One-Punch Man was directed by Shingo Natsume and animated by Studio Madhouse, Season 2 was directed by Chikara Sakurai and animated by J.C. Staff. The change in studio and animation crew among other things was very noticeable as Season 2 was criticized for its animation quality and pacing, among other issues.

One-Punch Man premiered its first season in Japan and simulcast on Hulu from October 4 to December 20, 2015. Season 1 was later dubbed and premiered stateside on Toonami from July 16 to October 8, 2016. Season 2 aired from April 2 to July 20, 2019, its dub and Toonami premiere from October 12, 2019 to January 12, 2020.

Viz Media, the distributor of One-Punch Man in North America, has yet to comment regarding the season 3 announcement at this time.
