Should My Hero Academia Join the Toonami Lineup?

Last Updated on by Phantom

When Toonami announced Black Clover would be joining the block, some fans were disappointed that it wasn’t My Hero Academia. At first, I didn’t understand why the series should be on the block other than the fact that it’s an action anime. I first heard about this show from a good friend. It came up when talking about all of the shows that FunimationNow has to offer. About after her 50th recommendation, I was finally able watch it after getting a Hulu subscription. (Mainly for Marvel’s Runaways). After the first season, I found myself enjoying the series.
Of course, the further I got into the series, the more I realized why it won’t be on the block anytime soon. First reason, this show is still relatively new and would cost too much to air. Another factor being, all the other upcoming shows that have potential to become a part of the lineup. Shows such as Attack On Titan S3, One Punch Man S2, and FLCL S2 & S3. Lastly, the Toonami lineup is rather crowded with long-running series like DBZ KAI, DBS, HunterXHunter, and Naruto Shippuden. With that in mind, I feel as if the block would be oversaturated with theses long running shows as it stands. Currently, I feel the Saturday night block has a good balance of long and short running series.
Jason Demarco talked about this topic on his ask.fm which you can check out.
While disappointing to say the least, this series is action-packed and very entertaining to watch. The comedy, suspense, and emotion between all characters make this a well-rounded journey from start to finish. However, I don’t see this show becoming a part of Toonami‘s lineup anytime soon but fear not citizens! Your symbol of hope could end up on Toonami someday in the far future, just don’t expect it to happen anytime soon. However, if the series does happen to make an appearance sooner, I for one, will welcome it wholeheartedly!
