Toonami Trending Rundown for February 04th- 05th, 2017, By @AnimeSavior

“You’re talking about [your promise with] Laboon, right? I know about that. Franky and the guys told me the whole story. […] We’ve been to the twin capes and we’ve met Laboon, it’s the truth, I swear it. And I can tell you this for a fact, too. Laboon has been right there for 50 years, waiting for his friends to return. […] That promise you made, he remembers it just as clear as you do. Laboon’s gonna be so happy when he finds out you’re okay.”

–          Monkey D. Luffy, One Piece (Ep. 378)

The Toonami Trending Rundown for February 4-5, 2017. The new month comes with some new beginnings as Hunter x Hunter begins the Yorknew City arc while Naruto begins the Six Tails Unleashed arc and Ghost In The Shell gets another run on the better cartoon show. On Twitter, Toonami and every show would successfully trend in the US during their respective East Coast airings, in addition to Hunter x Hunter during its West Coast airing as well as both Dragon Ball Super and Samurai Jack during primetime. On tumblr, both Toonami and Dragon Ball Super would also trend.

One Piece produced a character trend for the fourth week in a row, this time with Brook as while the crew celebrates getting their shadows back, Luffy tells Brook about his encounter with Laboon back during the Reverse Mountain arc. Being an old friend of his former pirate crew back in the day, Brook is overjoyed that he is doing well.

And finally, for the fourth time in five weeks, Dragon Ball Super made it to Nielsen Social’s top 5 most talked about shows on Twitter and Facebook, making it to the #3 spot. This is the 11th time in known history a Toonami show has made it to this list.

Some news bits for you. This week, Toonami showcased a 2D bumper titled “Welcome Back” produced by Adult Swim in collaboration with SCAD Atlanta. You can check it out below.

Of course, a big reason Stand Alone Complex was likely given another run is due to the anticipation of the upcoming film set for release on March 31st. During the Super Bowl, Paramount released a trailer for the film, which you can see below.

And we got some big news in regards to Samurai Jack, in which we now know the schedule for the block going forward at March 11th. While the original Adult Swim bump said it would be at 11:30pm, it was announced during this week’s Preflight that Toonami will actually be expanding to 11pm where Samurai Jack Season 5 will make it’s long awaited premiere on that timeslot. The rest of the block will stay the same scheduling wise going forward. On Monday, Adult Swim released a new trailer for Samurai Jack, which has gotten over 2 million views on Youtube as of this writing and has caused enough buzz to trend in the US and Worldwide, on Facebook, and on Tumblr as a result. You can check it out below. In the meantime, if you want to rewatch Jack in anticipation for the new season, Adult Swim has put up a stream where you can go binge watch the whole series.

The countdown to Samurai Jack’s long awaited return continues, which is just over a month away, and something tells me that there’s still a lot more yet to come in 2017. We’ll see what happens. Until next week, congratulations to the New England Patriots on winning the Super Bowl (and comisserations to everyone at Williams Street and Atlanta for the Falcons’ tough loss), and stay gold.
