“No one expects much, not from me. They think a Class C hero won’t be much help. I know that better than anyone. I’m too weak for Class B. I’m not good enough, I know that much. I’m aware that I have no chance of beating you. No one needs to tell me anything like that! And yet, I must try. It’s not about winning or losing, It’s about me taking you on right here and right now!”

–          Mumen Rider, One Punch Man (Ep. 09)

The Toonami Trending Rundown for September 17-18, 2016. We kick of the 2nd half of Gundam IBO’s first season and the beginning of Naruto’s “Tale of Jiraiya the Gallant” arc as Toonami and every show between DBZ Kai and Shippuden trended in the US, while Toonami and One Punch Man trended on Tumblr. On the other hand, both One Piece and Parasyte failed to trend, breaking a streak of all shows trending that has lasted since June 18.

One Punch Man would also produce a character trend in Mumen Rider as when Genos was knocked down by the Deep Sea King, Mumen arrived to help defend the civillians from it. While he was heavily beaten by the Deep Sea King, he did buy himself enough time for Saitama to arrive and finish the job.

“Our friend C. Martin Croker has passed away unexpectedly. With his pencil and voice, Clay created numerous characters. There wouldn’t have been a Zorak or an Adult Swim without Clay. “Think of me when you look to the night sky.””

“I’m a sad robot. Travel well, great one.”

–       Steve Blum

As we were watching Toonami on Saturday, we received some very sad news that Clay Martin Croker, animator and voice actor for Adult Swim and most known for voicing Space Ghost Coast to Coast’s Zorak and Moltar, the latter being Toonami’s very first host, has suddenly passed away at age 54.

Moltar was at the helm for the first two years of what would become the better cartoon show via the Ghost Planet Industries control room with the help of Clyde 49. Clay’s efforts would successfully bring Moltar and Toonami to life for many of the block’s early viewers, myself included, and helped set the groundwork to what Toonami would eventually be today with Moltar’s witty commentary and inspirational speeches, many of which are still fondly remembered today.

Moltar’s hosting duties would end on July 10, 1999, and Clay would eventually pass the torch to Sonny Strait and later Steve Blum with the creation of TOM and the Absolution, though he would voice Swayzak during the Trapped in Hyperspace TIE in 2002.

With his contributions to Toonami, Space Ghost, and Aqua Teen, among others, his legacy with Adult Swim will last for a long time and will definitely be missed. On behalf of the Toonami Faithful, Rest in Peace, Clay, and thank you.
