Kadokawa has greenlit a sequel to the events of Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun, with a message that translates to “Everyone, please live long and wait.”

During a special event for the Made in Abyss anime on Sunday, Kadokawa had announced that they have green-lit a sequel installment to the show which will follow the events of Season 2, The Golden City of the Scorching Sun.

No further details have been revealed other than a message that translates to “Everyone, please live long and wait.” The Season 2 finale, Episode 12, ends at chapter 60 of the manga. As of this writing, there are only three chapters that have been published that follows the events of Season 2 (and have yet to be adapted into anime format), so it could be several years until a sequel becomes realized.

For previous context, anime fans who have been watching since when the show first came out in 2017 have had to wait 5 years between the shows two seasons. Season 1 aired in Japan from July 7 – September 29, 2017, while season 2 aired from July 6 – September 28, 2022. Fans did get a breather to this wait in 2020, where alongside two compilation movies, a third movie titled Dawn of the Deep Soul was released that takes place between seasons 1-2 and covers the Ido Front Arc in the manga.

Toonami has just aired Episode 8 of Season 2 this past Saturday, January 14. This means that there are four episodes left for the block to air in the season. Barring any preemptions, the season finale is scheduled to air on February 11. Toonami began airing Made in Abyss just last year, with Season 1 airing from January 16 – April 10, 2022, while Season 2 begun airing on November 6, 2022. Toonami however, was unable to air Dawn of the Deep Soul due to licensing issues.

If you wish to see Made in Abyss return to the block for future seasons, continue watching the block every Saturday and send your show requests to Toonami’s Facebook page or by directly messaging Jason DeMarco on Twitter (@Clarknova1).
