For the third time in Toonami’s modern era (and fourth time overall on Adult Swim), Arsène Lupin III and his infamous gang of master thieves are back! This morning on Toonami’s official Facebook page, the block announced that the English dub of Lupin the Third: Part 6 will premiere next Saturday, April 16, at 1:30 a.m. EDT.
Lupin will be replacing Made in Abyss on the schedule, as the latter show will wrap up its first season the week before on April 9.
Lupin the Third: Part 4 previously aired on Toonami from June 17, 2017 to January 20, 2018, ending a 14-year hiatus from US television. Its success led to Lupin the Third: Part 5 airing on Toonami from June 15, 2019 to December 7, 2019, concluding with the OVA Is Lupin Still Burning on December 14th, 2019. Adult Swim aired 26 episodes of Part 2 back in 2003, though episode 3 was skipped over for content issues, and the remaining 129 episodes of part 2 never aired for various reasons. In 2016, Toonami attempted to also air The Woman Called Fujiko Mine, unfortunately, issues regarding too much nudity forced them to choose an encore run of Samurai Champloo instead.
Lupin The Third: Part 6 aired on Nippon TV in Japan and simulcast in the west subbed on HiDive from October 10, 2021 to March 27, 2022. The new season commemorates the 50th anniversary of the anime series. Part 1 of the anime series made its debut in Japanese television back in October 24th, 1971.
Lupin the Third: Part 6 will take Lupin and the gang to the United Kingdom, and Anime News Network’s plot summary is as follows:
After Sherlock’s long time partner Watson was murdered, the top suspect of the murder happens to be the gentleman thief himself Lupin III. In order to prove his innocence, Lupin must hunt down the shadowy organization known as the Raven if he wants to live to steal another day.
