“Now let’s hear it. Are you a hero or a devil? Get up and answer me, decide what you want to be. And if you give me the wrong answer you’ll die.”

–          Arthur Boyle, Fire Force (Season 02, Ep. 02)

“Am I a hero or a devil? Damn it. I’d thought I’d never have to answer such a stupid question seriously. A hero. I am a hero!”

–          Shinra Kusakabe

The Toonami Trending Rundown for November 14-15, 2020.

Among some of the night’s highlights, Sword Art Online had Klein, Silica, and Lizbeth join Asuna and company as reinforcements in the Underworld in their battle against Gabriel/Vecta, Vassago, and the American players. Meanwhile, Bercouli would fight Vecta in his attempt to prevent him from successfully kidnapping Alice. Bercouli would ultimately prevail at stopping Vecta but at the cost of his own life. Meanwhile, Fire Force saw Shinra and friends meet Captain Soichiro Hague of Company 04 to see what he knows regarding the Adolla Link and Shinra’s past. However, at the same time, a woman revealed to be the First Pillar appeared inside Shinra’s mind in an attempt to manipulate him, causing Shinrato lose control. Our hero would ultimately fight off the First Pillar’s provocations with the help of Arthur and Ogun. And Assassination Classroom would see a new transfer student in Itona join Class 3-E. To the surprise of Koro-sensei and his students, Itona was revealed as the biological brother of Koro-sensei.

On Twitter, #Toonami would trend in the United States alongside Sword Art Online, Fire Force, and Assassination Classroom. On Tumblr, #Toonami also trended. The full list, including statistics and tweet counts from the Twitter app, can be seen below.

This week’s feature was a sponsored look into Demon Souls for the new PlayStation 5 console. You can check it out below.

On the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend (Nov. 28), Toonami will give the regular schedule a night off to marathon Gennedy Tartakovsky’s Primal. The block will temporarily expand to air from midnight to 5:00 a.m. to air all 10 episodes of the first season.

Last Friday and Saturday was the annual Adult Swim Festival, which was held virtually this year on YouTube due to COVID-19. Jason DeMarco and Gill Austin hosted a special edition of Toonami Pre-Flight before this week’s Toonami broadcast. Alongside the previously mentioned game review and a Q&A session, Jason and Gill revealed some bad news and good news related to Toonami in the future.

The bad news is that Toonami Pre-Flight will be coming to an end after five straight years. This decision to cancel all of Adult Swim’s online streaming programming might relate to the pandemic (although the network hasn’t officially stated a reason), with many in those divisions also being laid-off as a result.

The good news is that come the new year in January 2021, the anime series SSSS.Gridman will be joining the Saturday night lineup.

An adaptation of the 1993–1994 tokusatsu series Denkou Choujin Gridman, the anime series by Studio Trigger and Tsuburaya Productions, was well received by those who watched the subtitled version and the SimulDub on Crunchyroll and Funimation. However, despite being a heavily requested show, efforts to bring SSSS.Gridman to Toonami took a bit longer than fans would’ve hoped. During Pre-Flight, Jason mentioned that SSSS.Gridman “came really close” to airing earlier but fell through at the last moment. And a while back, Jason responded to a fan requesting Gridman with, “If it turns out better than Darling in the Franxx, maybe!”
