“You can’t fight the current, you have to flow with it. If you do, you might just catch her.”
– Jin, Samurai Champloo (Ep. 21)
The Toonami Trending Rundown for May 28-29, 2016. As this week being Memorial Day weekend, Toonami took a week off from regular festivities, opting to showcase episodes 15-21 of Samurai Champloo. In terms of social media buzz, #SamuraiChamploo trended in the US for a good part during both East and West Coast airings.
This past Thursday marked the 4th anniversary of the return of the better cartoon show. It’s been a great 4 years for Toonami, as it continues to do what it does best by showcasing a large list of both popular and overlooked titles to both casual and hardcore anime fans and Toonami Faithful alike as well as general American audiences who wouldn’t have been anime fans otherwise, giving general exposure and attention to an industry that really needed it. Anime in the US and in many other parts of the world would not be what it is today without this great programming block, and so on behalf of the Toonami Faithful, thanks for the memories, and we’re all looking forward to see what’s next.
Tune in next week as the Gundam saga makes their long awaited return to the better cartoon show with the premiere of Iron Blooded Orphans at 12am Eastern. And to coincide with the return of Gundam, Toonami will be kicking off a half hour earlier, now airing from 11:30pm to 3am Eastern. The order of shows will be the same, though each show will air 30 minutes earlier (ex: DBZ Kai airs at 11:30pm while Parasyte airs at 2:30am) so make sure to get here earlier or set your DVRs.
Until next week, have a Happy Memorial Day and stay gold.
